This page is about the usage of video games, but that might not be what you're looking for. If you are looking for the person named "GamingG", see GamingG.

Gaming is the action of playing video games. Someone who games is a gamer. Often, the words gaming and gamer refer to more than just playing games occasionally, but rather refer to periodic play. Those that game very often usually join groups, usually referred to as clans, guilds, or alliances. This allows gamers to help each other achieve a better rank in games that keep track of win and loss statistics, as well as have more fun playing with their friends, regardless of attempting to achieve a better rank.

[edit] Platforms

Gaming can be done across a variety of platforms. As a general rule, any modern computer capable of calculating quickly has had a video game made for it, including some algebraic graphing calculators. Further detail will only be discussed for common gaming platforms, however.

[edit] PC

As the personal computer has advanced to be able to perform a variety of tasks, many games have been made for the PC. Often, players of PC games will be more likely than any other group to have a dedicated forum to their game, though, any platform has been seen to have large forums devoted solely to that game.

[edit] Consoles

Rather than the games being developed to work with a platform, gaming consoles are made exclusively for the purpose of gaming. This allows the console's hardware and software to be optimized to play video games, often resulting in better performance and/or cheaper parts than a PC dedicated to gaming.

The latest generation game consoles are as follows:

  • Microsoft Xbox 360
  • Nintendo Wii
  • Sony Playstation 3

[edit] Communities

Various gaming communities have sprung up across the Internet. Gaming Galaxy is an example of a website dedicated to gaming, and Pwned Galaxy is an example of a gaming-related forum.
